Ancient Wisdom - "Cometh doom, cometh death"

(Avantgarde Music, 2004)

At last I´ve got my hands on the album which I´ve been longing for. Unfortunately it was impossible to find it anywhere in Munich and I refused in principal to order it from Italy because of the horrific postal charges. But now at last the record is distributed in Germany as well by an underground mailorder company, so I bought it there.

Once again Marcus Norman (known for being a member of Naglfar and being the brains behind Bewitched as well as several other projects, for example Havayoth) has delivered a Black Metal masterpiece which is in a league of its own. This man is simply never a dissapointment to me. If he wasn´t around, my CD collection would be a lot emptier…

The cover of the album actually suggests an innocence that the album doesn´t have. So you recognize the Madonna and child in the cover picture… hopefully no one will buy it by mistake, because the album is simply pure, unadulterated mean Black Metal in its highest form.
You are treated to a mixture of damning lyrics, poisonous hissing and deep-pitched growling, which is completely unique. This album offers some outstanding strong compositions and the really nice thing about Mr. Norman’s work is that this way of making music is like no one else`s. Whilst other bands think that BM is only good and proper when it´s as loud and raucous as possible, Marcus’s work is much more complex and complicated. There are also many melodic parts and a lot of beautiful sound constructions which put you in an almost melancholic mood. But if I say melancholic, I mean diabolically melancholic. Whilst listening to the album a certain longing for doom and damnation (towards all you call your enemies, may it be Christians or whoever) spreads inside the listener. The evil aspect of this album is constantly lurking deceitfully in the ambush until it breaks out pitilessly at a certain point in each song. Means, you will not be overrolled by too much noise, but there´s that creeping mid-tempo construct , on which the anti-christian work is built upon. The music swirls around you with splendorous, bizarr, extraordinary innovative, evil tunes and melodies, these songs really have acquired their own personality and paint a picture of bleak landscapes, in which only Satan can rule. I´m listening to the album already the 6th time now, and I just can´t get enough… it´s engraving itself in my heart. It´s too good, I just can´t do without anymore! I know that it´s (still) hard to get the album, but I promise you (if you love Black Metal in its origin meaning) that you will never sell that album again, once you have it. You´ll love it, you´ll see!
