TORMENT – "Tormentation"

Remedy Records, June 2005

It seems that it took 20 years for this band Torment, (of which there are about ten or so) to release four albums, which all sounds quite a lot alike. Having heard this CD twice now, I can say that I cannot keep any of the songs apart, and apparently the music does not vary lyrically as well. The songs still cover drinking beer, having sex and rock n’ roll.

Normally I would now step by step go down every song and explain something about them, but for this CD, that is quite hard to do. A steady drum pattern and a steady guitar pattern, someone who really should learn something about variety singing the same thing a thousand times, and a useless guitar solo every now and then, that mostly does not even fit with the song, but well. The next songs are exactly like I described, only they might have moved from being a hooligan on to the fact that you need beer. Of course all this music does sounds decent to some people, but I cannot find any link to good music in it, though every now and then a guitar riff does stand out and could actually be used in something different, something with dignity.
With this music you either like it, or you hate it in my opinion, and as a matter of fact, I hate it. For the people who do not need to drink five gallons of beer to like this music, this might come as an insult, but hey, you can’t like every kind of music.
As it took very long to make a follow-up to Torment’s previous album, it might come as no surprise that there are 17 songs and over one hour of music on this CD.
I cannot say more about this album, without starting to despise it even more. As I said if you like this kind of music, being rock n’ roll with a touch of thrashy feeling mixed with beer, sex and the idea of being a beast, then this album is recommendable, otherwise. no!

Recommendable songs: If you like one, you like all....
