Endezzma
are a first-rate Norwegian band consisting of (ex-)members of various known
Black Metal bands such as Urgehal and Tsjuder. This morbid alliance, which has
endarkened Germany with their live-presence already in 2007, now unleashed its
first sound-execution in form of a MCD with 3 tracks called “Alone”.
Right
the first song takes care of getting your full attention immediately, as it
surprises you with the unexpected. It is not Black Metal as you know it, it has
its very own style. The music is fast and chasing and one brutal BM riff follows
the next, but the vocals are beyond growling and singing, it's more like a
psychedelic vocal output with a mid-pitched voice. It is requiring and at the
same time you will like it, as it gives you some thrills that you didn’t know
before.
The lyrics of the whole CD actually have nothing to do with classical satanic BM
themes, but are rather extremely misanthropic and morbid. The thoughts and
feelings mirrored here ain’t easy to swallow. The hate and despise towards humans
and their failure get channelled as an irreversible fact, no hope is left in
these lyrics.
The second song musically is different again. It’s fast as well, but much more
malicious in its own way. This song combines brute Black Metal style
with a slightly doomy touch which gives the whole creation an additional breath
of perniciousness and misanthropy.
But the third song “Love me morbid” is the ultimate, I promise you. Between
slow and mid-tempo the song crawls along devouringly and evil, carried by
dark-dispiriting keyboard sounds. Fans of Ancient Wisdom will adore this song.
The heart-rending vocal performance and the guitar lines in this song support
the feeling of being thrown into the abyss.
So, neither can you complain about any lack of variety and indivituality within
this MCD, nor can you complain about bad photos in the booklet as these are
taken by Sheol-Magazine’s Claudia (oh yes, some self-advertisement should be
allowed from time to time).
The sound quality is surprisingly good, normally first recordings are shit, but
not so on this disk. As a matter of fact I just wasn’t able to put the “Alone”-record
aside, I had to listen to it at least 10 times (especially to the song “Love
me morbid”) after receiving it. Just incredible stuff!
